Paki-iti also offers Suffolk and Suftex ram hogget’s for lease from mid March every year. We recognise that farmers may not know their ram requirements at ram selling time and due to buying in extra ewes or a change in breeding policy or retaining extra ewes or the decision about whether to mate the ewe hogget’s and the numbers to be mated which can vary from year to year, extra ram power may be needed. These ram hogget’s are SIL recorded and will be 45kg+
Brief tips for better ewe hogget mating
- Ram hogget ratio 1:50
- Ewe hogget’s must be over 40kg
- Use of a teaser ram 1 cycle before ram goes out at a ratio of 1:300
- Mate for no more than 2 cycles, ideally 26 days
- Vaccination with Toxo and Campylobacter at an est. $3.00/head
