Romney Rams
Paki-iti Farms Ltd is a nationally recognised ram supplier to the New Zealand sheep industry, servicing an estimated 165,000 ewes this season. Last season Paki-iti sold Romney, Suffolk, Suftex and Romtex genetics to over 100 properties throughout New Zealand.
Paki-iti Farms Ltd is a privately owned company running a 890ha hill country Romney ram breeding operation at Rangiwahia, west of the Ruahine Ranges. This property carries 3400 ewes including 1500 SIL recorded ewes in the Romney and Romtex ram breeding operation. It is run in conjunction with 450ha of finishing farms in the Manawatu, which incorporates a 750 SIL recorded Suffolk & Suftex ram breeding operation.
The Romney remains our main maternal breed and the Suffolk our main terminal breed, however over the past five years we have included Suftex and Romtex breed options, along with other breeding initiatives of leasing terminal ram hoggets and selling surplus recorded terminal ewe hoggtes.
Paki-iti’s Romney breeding philosophy is that if the sheep can perform on our hill country then they can thrive anywhere. The Suffolk has been utilised as the ideal terminal sire offering easy identification and proven Paki-iti performance.
